Eagerly Anticipating New Blades

Thursday, January 30th, 2003

Only a week or two to go, and I’ll have a fresh, shiny new set of custom-designed, hand-crafted blades! These seven new blades will go immediately into the show, and immediately into my body, all seven at the same time! Many thanks to Frank Gerten for his hard work and flexible attitude in working with me. I tend to be very particular, but Frank was nothing but patient while we decided on the best length and width and all of the other nitty-gritty details of designing historically inspired swords. I unhesitatingly recommend Frank for all of your blade needs. He can be contacted at gertensforge@citilink.net

A History of Medieval Magic

Tuesday, January 28th, 2003

Though Roderick is known by many for his sword swallowing feats, escape art and cutting edge psychological magic, he is also a very active Medieval Events performer. Working in such an environment with skills of conjuring, combined with Roderick’s natural academic tendencies, has led to a certain interest and familiarity with the history of Medieval magic. As a result, Roderick is now working on, in conjunction with the Phoenix Roost Tavern, a series of lectures and demonstrations on the subject of magic in the Middle Ages, and plans also to further develop this work into a small book.

Inc. Magazine Show

Sunday, January 19th, 2003

My first show involving challenging physical stunts since the unfortunate car accident, and I’m pleased to report that it went off without a hitch! The sword swallowing is in perfect form, and I managed to contort my way out of the straight jacket and 75 feet of chain in a minute and forty five seconds, including the time it took to drink the water in the middle of the escape! Many thanks to Inc. Magazine for having me, it was a pleasure working with you all!

Car Accident and the Silver Lining

Friday, January 3rd, 2003

For those of you who haven’t heard, I was involved in a car accident on December 27th while travelling to the New York area. I suffered a fairly severe blow to the head, which naturally got me quite worried, as much of what I do depends upon my brain being in tip-top shape! Worried about my recall, I decided to test it by memorizing as quickly as possible a list of 100 words and recalling them in any order asked for. I’m pleased to report that it was no trouble at all, and in fact, due to the success of it, I’ve decided to include this feat in my show. I’ll now be featuring a routine that has me memorizing and recalling in any order asked for a series of 100 (maybe more) words as given to me by the audience. You see, there’s a happy ending to every story!
